Who Should Attend:
Any law enforcement officer wanting additional information on dealing with individuals affected by Alzheimer's and dementia.

Course Description and Objectives:
This course will help students learn how to make positive connections with individuals dealing with Alzheimer's and dementia.  Topics covered will include handling cultural differences, hoarding, and disaster preparedness.  

1.  Explain how to handle individuals with Alzheimer's who may have cultural differences to the responding officer.

2.  Identify three (3) examples of hoarding an officer may see when dealing with an individual with Alzheimer's or dementia.

3.  Prepare a basic safety plan an individual or family experiencing Alzheimer's and/or dementia may utilize for disaster preparedness.

Comments:
This is a collaboration between the NC Alzheimer's Association and the North Carolina Justice Academy.  The Alzheimer's Association will instruct the course.
