Who Should Attend
Law enforcement officers with traffic crash investigation responsibilities

Course Objectives:
The student will be able to perform a variety of mathematical computations to:
- Determine minimum vehicle speed based on physical evidence.
- Determine time/distance traveled.
- Solve linear equations.
- Perform unit analysis.
- Account for variations in perception/reaction times.
- Account for braking deficiencies when calculating speed.
- Determine the coefficient of friction for various surfaces.

Methodologies
The course employs demonstration, lecture, and practical exercises.

Comments:
This course was created to merge two current 40-hour courses (Introduction to Traffic Crash Investigation & At-Scene Traffic Crash Investigation) into a single 80-hour course.

Virtual on Microsoft Teams, it will be live classes online each day, you can listen and participate through the software, delayed recordings are not permitted at this time
Resources Required
The course will be administered virtually in a Microsoft Teams environment

Students should bring a scientific calculator capable of trigonometric functions (Texas Instruments TI-30Xa highly recommended). Students should plan to spend some time at night completing practical exercises and study assignments.

This course is a prerequisite for NCJA Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation.

A minimum score of 75% must be attained on the final exam.

Must download Microsoft TEAMS and have permissions to download homework assignments on a computer (Agency Laptops); the program manager will provide you a link to the classroom and the materials on a Citrix Sharefile link a week prior to class; if you did not receive a link; please email Danny Gray at DGray@ncdoj.gov
