Full Description
Prerequisites:
The student must meet the following prerequisites: currently certified as a law enforcement officer or active member of the U.S. Armed Forces and actively assigned to a SWAT team as a Sniper. Student must provide a letter from the Agency, stating that they qualify and meet the prerequisites. This letter must be attached to their enrollment request and must be on employing agency’s letterhead.

Who Should Attend:
Individuals assigned the role of a precision marksman utilizing an optically assisted high-power rifle.

Course Goal
To provide the information and skills necessary for a law enforcement officer assigned to the duties of sniper/ counter sniper to fulfill those duties effectively and efficiently.

Course Objectives:
The student will be able to:
-  Describe and demonstrate scope mounting and rifle fitment.
-  Describe and demonstrate the fundamentals of modern rifle marksmanship.
-  Describe three types of ballistics.
-  Describe techniques for using a laser range finder.
-  Demonstrate tripod employment from various shooting positions.
- Describe the purpose of the data book and log appropriate entries.
- Describe the role of both the sniper and observer.
- Safely and accurately fire and operate the police sniper rifle.

Methodologies
This course employs lecture, discussion and practical exercises.

Resources Required
Suitable range clothing (for rough terrain/wooded areas, and weather conditions)
Sniper rifle with scope, bipod and ammunition (minimum of 300 rounds).
Prior to attending the course, participants should check their weapons and scope to ensure that the rifle will consistently fire a group of two (2) inches or less. The course will require a suitable sniper rifle with scope.  No iron sight rifles will be used.  
Tripod and Mount capable of supporting the rifle. There is an entire lesson on tripod employment. (NCJA has three to loan)
Rifle Data Book
Carry bag/backpack to include insect repellant, sweatbands, canteen, snacks etc.
Rifle Cleaning and Maintenance equipment (tools for all fasteners on your rifle)

Recommended:  
Binoculars, Spotting scope, Laser rangefinder, ballistic calculator (or phone capable of downloading app), support bags, and anything else you have found useful for precision shooting or operational deployments.
Reporting Instructions
Attendance is required for all class and range sessions. Students will be required to pass a written comprehensive examination with a score of 70% and pass a single shot qualification course of fire.
