Who Should Attend:
All law enforcement officer, investigators and related personnel who may investigate, prevent, or respond to reports of extremist activity or targeted attacks.

Course Description:
To provide the participant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to recognize, investigate, and respond to suspicious people, extremist organizations and targeted attacks. Methods of receiving, documenting, and reporting information will also be addressed.

Course Goals:
The student will be able to:

Define violent extremism and explain the difference between international, domestic, and homegrown violent extremists (HVE).

Identify the religious, political, and philosophical motives behind the actions of violent extremist organizations.

Recognize potential indicators, symbols, and behaviors associated with international, domestic, and Home-Grown Violent Extremists (HVE).

Identify and describe the beliefs and characteristics of left- and right-wing extremist organizations in the United States.

List symbols, writings, and general characteristics used by extremist organizations both in their verbal tactics and their writings.

Examine recent incidents of targeted violence, identify which extremist organization is responsible and explain the motivation behind the attack

Attendance is required at all class sessions.  To satisfactorily complete this course, the student must participate in all classroom discussions and activities.
