Full Description
This four-hour course is for law enforcement instructors who wish to teach the NCJA developed 40-hour Field Training Officer Course.  It will focus on the process and techniques for delivering the topic matter.  Upon successful completion of this course, the instructor will receive an FTO Instructor Certificate, along with an FTO Instructor Manual and PowerPoint presentations, at no cost.    

Prerequisites
Individuals attending this course are required to submit a current North Carolina general instructor certification.  The student must have completed the NCJA 40 hour FTO Class,  be currently enrolled in an NCJA FTO Class, or received a waiver from the NCJA FTO Program Instructor/Coordinator. Waivers are based upon prior training and experience.  

Course Goals:
To provide the instructor candidate with an understanding of the content and methodology for delivering classroom instruction in NCJA’s Field Training Officer Course.

Course Objectives:
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe three (3) elements of effective instruction in a classroom environment.
- Identify active learning techniques that stimulate student engagement.
- Identify the FTO Course outline and administrative activities necessary for executing an FTO Course.
- Identify the learning objectives for each FTO Course module and describe techniques for presenting each module of instruction.

Methodologies:
This web-based course employs self-guided learning utilizing online reading assignments, and PowerPoint presentations.

Reporting Instructions
A student must begin course work within three days of the course start date.

Criteria for Completion:
To satisfactorily complete this course, the student must participate in all class activities and required review of lesson plans.  Within seven days of the course start date, one-hundred percent of the required course activity must be completed.
