Who Should Attend:
Radar instructors seeking recertification under NCAC 9B.0218.

Course Goal:
To maintain and enhance the skills necessary to instruct the RADAR Operator course.

Course Objectives:
The student will be able to:
- Demonstrate basic skills in testing and operating specific RADAR instruments
- Identify specific RADAR instruments and describe their major components and features.
- Identify laws, court rulings, regulations, policies and procedures affecting RADAR speed measurement and speed enforcement.
- Teach students in the performance of the objectives listed above.

Prerequisites
Each applicant for the RADAR Instructor Re-Certification Training course shall:

1. Present the endorsement of a commission-recognized school director or law enforcement agency executive officer or his designee. Endorsement is available at http://ncja.ncdoj.gov/getdoc/a2c819f0-73e0-4d79-8494-2c4d8ef48764/Endorsement-for-Specialized-Instructor-or-SMI-Trai.aspx.
2. Possess criminal justice general instructor certification as required in 12 NCAC 9B .0302. (submit documentation)
3. Have been certified as a RADAR Instructor within the three years preceding the completion date of the retraining course. (submit documentation)
4. Provide, for practice and testing, a vehicle equipped with a RADAR instrument.
5. Provide or obtain a copy of the RADAR Instructor Training course manual.

Resources Required
Attendance is required at all class sessions. Performance of 100% proficiency is required in motor-skills testing. Upon course completion, students must attain a minimum of 75% on a Commission-administered written examination prior to being recertified as a RADAR Instructor. There will be an assortment of motor-skills testing throughout the training course  which the student must successfully complete before graduation from the training is permitted.

Special Concerns:
Students must bring a RADAR unit capable of dual antenna and same direction upon which to be road tested and a vehicle for use during testing. The RADAR instrument for which the student brings must have active dual antenna operation in stationary, moving-opposite direction, and moving-same direction modes.
