Full Description
Prerequisites: The student must meet the following prerequisites: currently certified as a law enforcement officer or active member of the U.S. Armed Forces and actively assigned to a SWAT team. Students must provide a letter from the Agency stating that they qualify and meet the prerequisites. This letter must be attached to their enrollment request and must be on employing agency’s letterhead.

Who Should Attend:
  
This course is exclusively designed for law enforcement officers assigned to a Special Weapons and Tactics Team. The course design makes it applicable to both new and veteran operators seeking a structured week of training.

Course Goals:
  
To expose the student to basic individual skills and fundamentals of working as part of a team during the deployment of a SWAT-related operation.  

Course Objectives:  

The student will be able to:
- Discuss the basic structure of a SWAT team and distinguish between the responsibilities of each team member/position.
- Discuss the types and purpose of basic and specialized equipment as they relate to the individual and team.
-Discuss terminology used in tactical operations.
-Identify key components of a distraction device and demonstrate proper handling and employment techniques.
-Safely demonstrate the ability to manipulate and operate both primary and secondary weapon systems in a tactical manner during training exercises on the firing range.
-Discuss breaching methods and techniques and demonstrate the ability to breach a door in a tactical setting.
-In a tactical setting, perform a series of slow and deliberate entry/search techniques as they relate to barricaded subjects and high-risk warrant incidents.
-In a tactical setting, perform a series of dynamic entry techniques as they relate to hostage rescue or time sensitive operations.
-Discuss legal issues that apply to tactical operations involving SWAT teams.

Methodologies:
This course employs lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and practical exercises.

Resources Required
Students must bring with them (materials required): handgun with at least three magazines, 400 rounds of practice ammunition for handgun, tactical belt and holster, long gun (SMG/Carbine) with sling, at least three magazines, 400 rounds of practice ammunition for long-gun, flashlight, tactical clothing, rain gear, body armor, gas mask with filter, hearing/eye protection, billed ball cap and ballistic helmet.

Optional Items: Any specialized item, tool or device utilized by your agency that will enhance your training. Simunitions / UTM PPE, conversion kits, and ammunition.
Reporting Instructions
The student must be a certified law enforcement officer or currently serving as a member of the United States Armed Forces. Attendance is required at all class sessions. Students are expected to successfully complete all practical exercises. The student must score an 80% or greater on the SWAT Operator written exam. Students must be on an active SWAT team to be approved.

No cost to attend and housing is at no cost. The student or agency provides meals and transport costs. Enroll in Acadis. Must be on a SWAT Team or related field prior to application. Agency Limit: Two (2)
