Brief Description: This LIST houses all interested in attending Specialized PT Instructor Training Qualification

Full Description: NOTE: You do not secure a slot in this course until all required paperwork has been submitted and approved, once this approval happens, you will be notified that you have been enrolled in the course.
Who Should Attend: Successful completion of this course is required for all instructors planning to attend Specialized Physical Fitness Instructor Training. The testing required within this course replaces the testing which, in the past, has been done on the first day of the Specialized Physical Fitness Instructor Training course. Therefore, this course is an extension of Specialized Physical Fitness Instructor Training. In order to enroll in this prequalification course, instructors must submit the Written Endorsement to Attend Specialized Instructor Training letter, a copy of the student’s Instructor certification (valid through the course date) from Training and Standards, and a PT medical form dated within a year of the class date.

Prerequisites: Each applicant must attach the completed Written Endorsement to Attend Specialized Instructor or SMI Training. NOTE: All forms are available on this portal (click the course name on the List of Available Training)

Each applicant must have completed the criminal justice general instructor training course and attach a copy of their current general instructor certification issued by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training and Standards Commission, even if it has expired. Attaching a copy of a certificate of completion from your instructor training course will not meet this requirement.

Resources Required: Course Requirements
The student will be required to complete the Police Officer Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) in six minutes or less (= 6:00) for Scenario #1 and three minutes or less (= 3:00) for Scenario #2. Students will be given a minimum of a ten minute rest period between. Additionally, a physical assessment will be administered, and students must be able to meet the 60th percentile overall for their age and gender.

Reporting Instructions: Special Concerns: Students must bring a calculator, athletic clothes, good running shoes, sweat suit, extra towels and their duty issued gun belt with all equipment.

NOTE: Once a student successfully completes an instructor prequalification session, the student will be given one calendar year to attend (and only one attempt to successfully complete) the specialized instructor training course offering in which the prequalification applies. If the student fails to meet this standard, the student must re-enroll and successfully complete another instructor prequalification session in its entirety prior to being eligible to attend a subsequent specialized instructor training course.

Signup Details: Effective February 2013: Students applying for our Specialized Instructor Training courses no longer have to submit a CPR card in order to enroll or attend. Students will have to submit the CPR card to the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Division once they complete our Specialized course and apply for certification.
