This class houses all students interested in attending a Specialized SCAT Qualification Course
Full Description
NOTE: You do not secure a slot in this course until all required paperwork has been submitted and approved, once this approval happens, you will be notified that you have been enrolled in the course.
Who Should Attend: Successful completion of this course is required for all instructors planning to attend Specialized Subject Control/Arrest Techniques Instructor Training. The testing required within this course replaces the testing which, in the past, has been done on the first day of the Specialized Subject Control/Arrest Techniques Instructor Training. In order to enroll in this prequalification course, instructors must submit the Written Endorsement to Attend Specialized Instructor Training letter, a copy of the student’s Instructor certification (valid through the course date) from Training and Standards, and a SCAT medical form dated within a year of the class date.

Course Requirements
The student will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the techniques in the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Subject Control/Arrest Techniques and the Detention Officer Certification (DOCC) Subject Control Techniques lesson plans. Additionally, a physical assessment will be administered and students must be able to meet 60th percentile overall for their age and gender.

Each applicant must have completed the criminal justice general instructor training course and attach a copy of their current general instructor certification issued by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training and Standards Commission, even if it has expired. Attaching a copy of a certificate of completion from your instructor training course will not meet this requirement.
Each applicant must attach the completed SCAT Physician’s Certification of Fitness. NOTE: All forms are available on this portal (click the course name on the List of Available Training)

Special Concerns
Comfortable and practical clothing, tennis or aerobic shoes and gym apparel for physical training are necessary. Students should also bring handcuffs and duty belt with standard attachment equipment to include expandable baton (NO WEAPONS, NO AEROSOL CHEMICAL SPRAYS). Physical training will be conducted at specified times and participation is mandatory.
Reporting Instructions
NOTE: Once a student successfully completes an instructor prequalification session, the student will be given one calendar year to attend (and only one attempt to successfully complete) the specialized instructor training course offering in which the prequalification applies. If the student fails to meet this standard, the student must re-enroll and successfully complete another instructor prequalification session in its entirety prior to being eligible to attend a subsequent specialized instructor training course.
