Who Should Attend:
NOTE: You do not secure a slot in this course until all required paperwork is submitted and approved, once this approval occurs, you will be notified that you have been enrolled in the course. THE WRITTEN ENDORSEMENT FORM LINK CAN BE FOUND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE COURSE DESCRIPTION.  

Successful completion of this course is required for all instructors wanting to attend Specialized Firearms Instructor Training.    In order to enroll in this prequalification course, instructors must meet and submit all prerequisite paperwork as required to attend Specialized Firearms Instructor Training. Prospective students must submit a copy of their valid instructor certification issued by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Division. PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO SWORN LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND CERTIFIED BLET PROGRAMS.  ALL OTHERS WILL BE PLACED AFTER THESE STUDENTS.

Each applicant must attach the completed Written Endorsement to Attend Specialized Instructor or SMI Training. NOTE: All forms are available on the NCJA Acadis portal
I would like housing for this class (YES/NO)
Each applicant must have completed the criminal justice general instructor training course and attach a copy of their current general instructor certification issued by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training and Standards Commission, even if it has expired. Attaching a copy of a certificate of completion from your instructor training course will not meet this requirement.Expired Probationary Certificates will not meet this expectation.

Resources Required
The student will be required to fire the Basic Law Enforcement handgun qualification course, both daytime and low-light, and must receive a score of 92% with their duty handgun and equipment, two out of three attempts.
NOTE: Once a student successfully completes a Specialized Firearms Instructor Training  qualification session, the student will be given one calendar year to attend (and only one attempt to successfully complete) the specialized instructor training course offering in which the qualification applies. Suppose the student fails to meet this standard. In that case, the student must re-enroll and successfully complete another instructor qualification session in its entirety prior to being eligible to attend a subsequent specialized instructor training course.
Reporting Instructions
Special Concern:
Students should bring comfortable and practical clothing for outside training and bring rain protection.  The student should also bring their duty handgun with duty holster, ancillary equipment, and 300 rounds of duty/ballistic equivalent pistol ammunition.  Also, bring eye and ear protection and a billed cap.  Nylon holsters (unless uniform duty holsters) and tactical holsters are unacceptable. No kydex or concealment holsters attached to duty belts. Individuals employed by an agency with a Uniform Patrol Division MUST have a uniform belt and holster (i.e., Sam Brown belt, security holster, etc.) regardless of their current duty assignment. Duty weapons MUST be the department issued weapon. NO PERSONAL WEAPONS.
